Our client, one of the UK’s high profile telecoms providers engaged us to guide them through a period of significant organisational and structural change.  Innovation and strategic acquisitions had driven significant growth over a relatively short period of time. However, recent work on the strategy had highlighted the need for a significant reduction in central costs. Alongside this there was a strong desire to operate more efficiently whilst putting in place the right organisation, structure, vision and values which were consistent with one fully integrated organisation. It was important for the organisation to retain the innovative spirit that had made it so successful whilst doing this.

As such, we assessed the organisation’s current and future health using our organisational fit test. We also used our proprietary benchmarking database to conduct competitor and internal cost benchmarking which enabled us to identify a set of opportunities to improve organisational efficiency and effectiveness.  We worked with the top team to agree the vision, values and desired behaviours. With these principles in mind we worked together to develop the organisation design principles and created the blueprint for the future organisation – incorporating the functional organisational structures. Furthermore, we set-up internal mobilisation and communications channels.

As a result of this work, central head count costs were reduced by 24%. A new set of values and behaviours were embedded in the organisation shaping the way it works now and in the future. What’s more, a new streamlined operating model was designed and shared services concepts were embedded in the new organisation structure.
