People Strategy Forum

Sean Connolly recently delivered the closing plenary session at the HR Magazine People Strategy Forum on September 22nd. The title of his session was  “What next? From Survival to Prosperity".

He started by looking at why we find thinking about the future and changing difficult, by looking at the forces for stability. For example this included touching on the impact of Presentism, the Status Quo Bias and Over-Optimism and the role they collectively play in not addressing the brutal facts of the current situation and therefore not recognizing what is really going on around us.  Next he turned to the evidence that shows we are living in exponentially different times and how six key drivers will significantly affect our personal and working lives over the next decade running up to 2020.  This included considering the impact of the globally ageing population and increased demand for scarce resources.

The second part of the session focused on what will separate the losers from the winners. Sean concluded with what next – how do we respond - the four things for organisations and five things for us as individuals.
